Congratulations to Sarah Klein, Miss Mustang the 2011 Esther Scholarship recipient. Sarah was awarded the Esther Scholarship for overcoming adversity in her life and for helping to overcome adversity in the lives of others. The award was presented by Janet Phillips and the Phillips family on Sunday, June 5th at the Hilton Hotel. This is the fifth anniversary of the Esther Scholarship. The past four recipients were also in attendance to celebrate the award.

When Sarah was 12 years old, she went on her first mission trip to Reynosa, Mexico. She was exposed to a whole new world of poverty, sickness, disease and starvation. She was instantly drawn to help people and help change their situation. That trip started her passion to serve others and to make a difference. Since that first experience, she has traveled on seven mission trips to Mexico, Dominican Republic, Honduras and throughout the United States. Sarah described that each trip does require sacrifice but nothing compares to the joy you receive when you know you’ve made a difference in someone’s life.

Sarah is a Sophomore at the University of Oklahoma studying elementary education. This is her first year as a Miss Oklahoma contestant.
